I was watching an old fashioned black and white

Any closet novelists, short story writers, script-writers or prose poets out there?

I was watching an old fashioned black and white, bang-bang, shoot-em-up, cowboy movie on my game room screen. My youngest son had just
joined me. I knew he had come downstairs to purposefully pull me away from whatever I was doing so that he and I could do whatever it was
he wanted to do, more than likely something to do with legos. I pretended not to notice him and kept my focus on the screen. The covered
wagons had circled and the pioneer men and their women folk were doing all they could to keep the Indians from overrunning the train. The
carvery was on the way.

"Daddy, why are the cowboys shooting at the Indians?" he asked.
"Because they don't want to get shot by the Indians." I said. A quick answer to block further conversation.

I went back to the screen, but my son must have been deliberating.

"Well, why are the Indians shooting at the cowboys?" he asked.
"I guess, because they don't want to get shot by the cowboys.", back to the screen.

"Daddy, it that prejudice?"

prejudice is new
born as we teach it again
to daughters and sons

Like the sentiment, a pithy way to summarise the way such historical inequitys are brushed under the carpet....a quick answer to block further conversation....
