Once upon a time, there was a chicken. He was a brown chicken and he was called henry.

Henry was just like the other chickens. He went to chicken school like the other chickens, where they learn all the things a chicken needs to learn. He lived with his mummy and daddy in a chicken house. He played in the field with the other chickens. But all the chickens teased henry. Henry couldn't find his “doo”.

“cock-a-doodle....” he'd cry “I can't find my doo!”

one day, henry decided to go look for his “doo”.

He asked Raji Runnderduck. “have you seen my “doo”?”
“no I haven't” replied Raji Runnerduck “but I can help you look for it”
“thankyou very much!” said henry, and they went off to find Henry's “doo”

they found Tarquin Quaildon. “have you seen my doo?” asked henry
“he's lost it and i'm helping him find it” said Raji Runnerduck.
“no I haven't, but I can help you find it” said Tarquin Quaildon.
“thankyou very much!” said henry, and the three left to find henry's doo.

“look over there!” said Tarquin Quaildon “it's Tommy Turkey!” shouted Tarquin Quaildon.
Henry, Raji Runnerduck and Tarquin Quaildon all quickly ran over to Tommy Turkey.
“have you seen my doo?” asked henry, out of breath.
“no I haven't” said Tommy Turkey “i'm good at looking for things, i'll help you find it”
“thankyou very much!” said Henry.

Henry, Raji Runnerduck, Tarquin Quaildon, and Tommy turkey looked all around for Henry's doo.
Tommy Turkey looked high. And Tarquin Quaildon looked low.
They just couldn't find Henry's doo.
They looked in the field.
They looked in the stream.
They even looked in the farmer's house.
Henry's doo just wasn't anywhere.
“i just can't find my doo” said henry.
Suddenly, everyone stopped. No-one knew what a doo looked like.
“what does a doo look like?” asked Raji Runnerduck.
“i don't know” said henry “maybe we should ask Mary Motherhen. She'll know”

so Henry, Raji Runnerduck, Tarquin Quaildon and Tommy Turkey all went to Mary Motherhen's little wooden hen house at the edge of the field. Henry knocked on the little wooden door.
“hello?” said Mary Motherhen from inside “who's there?”
“It's Henry” said Henry.
“It's Raji Runnerduck” said Raji Runnerduck
“it's Tarquin Quaildon” said Tarquin Quaildon
“it's Tommy Turkey” said Tommy Turkey”

“how can I help you?” asked Mary Motherhen.
“i can't find my doo” said Henry “what does a doo look like?”
“a doo isn't a thing, henry” said mary motherhen “you have to find your own doo”
“how do I do that?” asked Henry
“how do you do what?” said mary motherhen
“find my doo” said henry.
“you just said it” said mary motherhen
“so I did!” said henry
“now say cock-a-doodle and then say doo” said mary motherhen
“cock-a-doodle......doo!” henry was really glad he'd found his doo “cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo! I'm so happy!”
“you had your doo all along” said Raji Runnerduck, Tarquin Quaildon and Tommy Turkey “well done for finding it”
“now, if you don't mind. I'd like to go back to sleep” said Mary Motherhen as she led the four tired boy birds through her little wooden door and out of her little wooden house.

“we've been looking for your doo all day” said Raji Runnerduck “and now i'm tired, I should go home”
“me too” said Tarquin Quaildon “my mummy will be looking for me”
“me too” said Tommy Turkey “i'm hungry”
“bye-bye!” said henry “have fun in bed, seeing your parents and eating!”

“good-bye Henry” they all said “have fun with your doo”
and they all went home to go to bed, see their parents and eat.

“cock-a-doodle-doo!” Henry shouted with delight all the way back to his house.

A good story for children I think. It would work well with pictures.
