[the stranger]

eyes like rat traps
forced shut
to capture night
kaleidoscope vision
in black, stars
explode under
eyelids,
shatter their past futures
into your comatic dreams
burn bright
keep you alert
to every sound,
every echo
an intruder
with every intruder
a scythe
to slice you into
sleep,
sweat moistens
then hardens like a cast
and you are set.
