Even Better than the Real Thing
I who once featured in a fashion show
have little truck with fashion now. The call
that I should favor Pepsi over Coke,
in drinking, does not pique my interest –
it leaves me cold. My trousers too, have they
grown narrow as they ought? No, they have not.
Or do I say the words you want to hear –
as others do? No, I say other things,
I choose to be old-fashioned. On the shelf
beside the Pepsis sit the Cokes. I find
this as it should be. And my tongue desires
that bit of zest – that hint of difference.
Even Better than the Real Thing
Hi Phil,
It does feel familiar! I posted a different take on the same question a few months ago. I prefer this version, I am hoping it's more of a poem and less of a lecture than the original. It is in fact a new poem, and I've discarded the old one, for now at least.
Cheers,
John

Interesting poem. I like that it is based in the real world in a mundane situation.
But it needs more reading and I'm off to bed. I'll have more to say later.

Signature info:
If you don't like the black theme, it is easy to switch to a lighter color. Just ask me how.
If I don't critique your poem, it is probably because I don't understand it.

Thanks Phil! Yes, fashion is a funny thing, and art in its broadest sense is its primary home. The C20th certainly saw its share of fashions. Built-in obsolescence, really.
I like that favor-flavor detail! Unconscious, I think.
Cheers,
John
