Cool addition to the forum! I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far. I have been working recently on Orcas Island; one of Washington State's secret little gems (shhhhh...). I've been having a good time exploring around. If you like to take a peek and see what she looks like, I'll link ye up.

cheers,

marten

My favourite though has to be: http://s149.photobucket.com/albums/s72/ ... G_0603.jpg

I'd love to enter the competition with this. But I'd just feel that whatever entry I'd make would be insignificant to this:

'and from the Gothic mass of the church the spire rose, a prayer imperishable in bronze, immaculate in its illusion of slow ruin across motionless young clouds.' (William Faulkner... who else?)

As soon as I saw that I thought of this - amazing picture.

I

By the white horse chestnut candles
spiders weave their evening traps,
to wrap the wings
of moon drowsed moths.

II

Downtown bars spill light
and people on the street;
dancing spiders tongue-weave traps
of drunk deceit
for the perfumed, drink drowsed moths
that flutter round the neon-lights of clubs,
or in the karaoke pubs,
among the lasers and the fights
that flourish on the warm spring nights.

Another double yolker Barrie! Ha ha. And you're back on your specialist subject: spiders.

I think the 2nd poem is the highlight. It evokes the sexual tension of Saturday nights very well. I also like the first one, but they don't seem to fit together IMO. Also the second one wouldn't spring naturally from the photo. How about the old I and II ploy again??

You call the chestnut flowers "candles" - never heard that before.

Great picture Marten.

PS maybe this forum will avoid rigor mortis.

And I'd thought I'd woven the two together with the chestnut candles / town lights: spiders and moths - What goes on up a tree on warm spring night is not much different as to what goes on up town - except there's probably more violence and deception going on up a tree.

Good idea for the old one-two though - (You sound like Marciano's boxing coach.) I'll do it.

cheers

Some people will step on spiders, or drown them as they try to climb up the slippery porcelain walls with wet feet. I take more of a buddhist approach and keep them alive, so they can flourish and kill other things. Suprisingly the do not do well caged in the confines of a ten year old boy's minature terrarium. Without food or things to occupy themselves, they reluctantly pursue a blood thirst for each other. The strongest will survive; high upon the webbed carcasses, of his former drinking buddies!

Good one Arachno,

Marten
