that most of the photographs so far have been more about landscapes and buildings and not life (which is a lot easier to write about in my opinion.) So I thought I'd include these:

A rainy day in London (we've all been there)

An empty train station (we've all been there too)

Trainstations are always so symmetrical aren't they?

I like the London picture a lot. Particularly the lighting - you can't see their faces.

I took that London picture completely off the cuff and trying not to let the people realise I was taking it. I just thought their big bright cagools looked funny in the middle of London. Bless tourists.

I've written something inspired by the rainy day photo, but taken liberties with the story as I couldn't remember the exact details of the photo at the time. Not sure it fits the competition rules very well, but will post here anyway

softness

The softness kept us company
throughout the dull day;
slicking the pavements,
splashing the kerbstones.
We walked in waterproof anonymity,
hidden by hoods,
evading even the tourist paparazzi.
Loud colours kept contact
as we swam the spawning stream
of retail therapists.
I bought an ice cream,
a ridiculous concession to the season,
and didn’t lose a single, melted drop.
We slept on the train home –
no sense in straining
through moist, murky windows –
and returned
to our own, familiar softness;
comfy chairs and cocoa.

Og,

Thanks for entering again.

There's some nice description in this poem but I did find it all a little cosy - especially the final line. I was half expecting there to be some kind of twist in the tail.

I wondered whether it might work better if the "we" in the poem were actually avoiding the real paparazzi?? Just a thought.

Cheers

Look Down in London

There is another world beneath us, slate-brown,
only seen in the rain. It is much duller than this one,
tilting and rippling in grainy puddles. Marble frowns
with drowning shadows; its sky will never have a sun.

Og,
Probably out of all the poems you have posted here I really like this one the best. It's beautiful and cozy! I happen to be a hot cocoa lover myself.
Loud colours kept contact
as we swam the spawning stream
of retail therapists.
I bought an ice cream,
I particularly liked how wrapped in softness the remembrance of the day was in each line. Wrapped with rain, hoods, crowds, trains, steamed windows and the old familiar chair. It was a lovely read.

Cheers,
Kimberly

Kim

thanks very much for that cheering review.

I appreciate that the subject wandered away from the photo. I was trying to recall the photo when I wrote the poem. As I was travelling, I incorporated that idea too. I was quite pleased with the final product, but appreciate that it probably isn't an ideal candidate for the photo comp.
