Mac. I love the innocence to this painting,
You did a great drawing of Dyffyn House .
You painted a splendid sky and some foreground.
Touched some of the house, sat back and thought "Yeah" !
Nuff said.
You managed to control your colours.
No bleeding.
That is way more than I could ever do.

However, we both know as a finished piece you may need to offer more.
Shading. Contrast. Atmosphere ...

Thanks Pauline. I'm a bit of a hobby person - poetry, birdwatching, gardening, chess - and this is another The immediate benefit is to 'see' more in the landscape, and in gallery visits, but long term it would be rewarding to achieve those tonal values to create Shading. Contrast. Atmosphere...some watercolour craft.

Excellent crit from Pauline, mac, for this very good drawing. Your colours are working, up to a point, and the depth is definitely coming through. So a lot of positives. I find developing a contrast between light and dark the easiest route to follow, although "easiest" is probably not the right word.

I've been offline again recently, because of a connection problem. Needed a new lead.

Keep at it.

Picnic with Megan at the Quarry

This afternoon she's tapping time for me, dancing
until her soles are black like slate; it's as though
she threads a tale within her mime - like Gretel
might feed Hansel with crumbs of cake.

I trudge on trails above the bells and past
the mirror of ribbon lake. Descending
I thread my joy, spin tales to tell the Crow
of why I came to prayer so late.

Good drawing of the chapel and mountains, mac, and a super little poem. I like both.

You could soften your background colours, mainly because the colour blue only really shows when the hills/fields etc are in the far, far distance. Aerial perspective would dull the colour significantly. Your mid-ground colours are weaker than your background colours, and it should be the other way round.

Mahogany

There's a rustling prayer in this lock,
that rust, those tired screws, this handle
smeared with prints. What lies secured here?

There is no sap, no lust, no vein of life.
The trunk has been severed from root,
planed with blade to serve a closure.

And yet at this hour, as if heavy
beneath a symphony of wet leaves, I hear
the life within this ordinary door.

Nice ekphrastic poem for a very interesting painting, mac.

The semi-abstract nature of the painting adds to the mystery, and the colours are very eye-catching. I like it!
