It's not a great photo. There's a glare on the main rock. Its a lot darker than the photo.
A 90x90cm acrylic.

I'm a great lover of waterfalls and this one is no exception. I must admit the title threw me a bit, so I'm assuming these are Carlton Falls or some such thing. There's a Carlton, Teesside, and I wondered if this was somewhere near.

Your painting has the look of Upper Teessdale, based on my own swimming experiences, where a multitude of falls and rapids can be found amongst the clean waters of the Tees. Sounds like a contradiction but, as you know, the upper waters of the Tyne, Wear and Tees are glorious.

This has great atmosphere and movement, with the turmoil at the foot of the falls giving off a brilliant air-filled turbulence. Very well done.
If this is actually darker than shown, the ominous mood would be seriously intensified, in a good way, but it looks very good as is.

Of course, the scale will add that something special, and I bet it's a real eye-catcher in the "flesh".

Really like this one, Pauline, like it very much.

Canny job, like!

JJ

PS

Did you use "flash" for the photo? I ask only because the flash setting always creates glare.

dear Pauline

lots of fine energy in this canvas

on a side note
i might suggest casting a different tone for the signature
for my eye it distracts

and if you use studio lighting
then one can place polarization filters over the lights/soft boxes
and a filter over the lens of the camera which you turn ever so slowly
until all glare is gone

a warm smile

Ah, now then. I totally get where you are coming from.
I can see how it could be a distraction.
However, in the moment, I was chuffed with my piece and I proudly signed my name in a colour that would stand out.
When people take a closer look to see what the yellow is, they will see my name.
Hey ho

Thanks for the lighting tips but I only have my phone camera at the moment.
I should invest in a decent camera, I know, and I will.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Lotus.
Appreciated. :D

JJ. It's Aysgarth Falls in Layburn.
I don't know why I called it Carlton. I must change that. :)
Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy visited while they waited for their coach horses to be changed and Turner sketched them on a tour of the north.

You now know the effect size can make JJ.
90x90cm is perfect for making an impact.
That is, if you've got it right of course

Got you.

The Falls are spectacular and your painting does them proud. The Wordsworth link makes them a must for me and actually elevates the painting in my eyes. Love him or hate him he had impact. Interestingly, Dorothy is a greater source of inspiration for me, with her "joyous" observations and "joyful" youth. I can sense the awe, the overwhelming excitement in your painting through her eyes. (and William's)

Turner, of course, is a definite WOW! I've looked at his sketch and painting and you give him a good run for his money. :)
He did quite a lot of work in the Dales, all around this area, so the attraction must be magnetic. It certainly feels that way.

Here's a link to upper Teesdale for your perusal. It has a similar feel, I think.

Marvellous painting and a pleasure to see, especially with your explanation.

Best and keep at it

Thanks for that link JJ.
I notice quite a few for High force in there. I have quite a collection of my own photo's of High Force and Low Force.
Gawjus place to visit just up the road from me.
I'm still chipping away at my huge painting of High Force in between other projects.
You will be the first person I share it with when it's finally finished.

I turned it upside down and it suddenly became a powerful abstract expressionist painting! I also like this , it is very dramatic and I can see it hanging in a public space, the foyer of an office building maybe.

best wishes

:D Thanks Ross.
Whichever angle you look at at this.
As long as you get something from it I'm pleased.
Thanks for taking the time to look at it and comment.

You haven't posted any of your painting for a while.
I look forward to seeing what you have been up to.
Thanks again :D
