Here is the large painting I've been threatening to post. It's 3ft X 3ft, oil on canvas and it drove me up the proverbial, although I am quite pleased with the result. The greys are bluer than showing but not by much.

Long time a child and still a child
WOW, WOW, WOW.
I absolutely LOVE it.
Anger in the form of water, turbulent and unforgiving.
The Kittiwake certainly did have a near miss.
That bird looks real
The clouds in the sky look real.
The waves are amazing.
This is now my new favorite
Now isn't that a great size canvas.
Bet it looks striking.
I'm guessing you will be shopping in Home Bargains again shortly
I have never used oils JJ.
You have inspired me to take the plunge.
This is great.
You should be really proud of yourself.
Water is not easy to do.
It looks like a photograph.
I am really impressed with this JJ.
Pat on the back from me

Thanks for the brilliant comments, Pauline. You always make me smile.

This is now my new favorite ...So good to read all that. I'm blushing! You were right about the size btw, but I fell out with myself more than once. There must be about £200 worth of paint on this budget canvas, given the number of false starts I had.

You have inspired me to take the plunge. ...They take some getting used to and above all you need patience. However, if you can paint alla prima (wet in wet) it saves a lot of time. I find wet in wet great for backgrounds, and to some extent the middle ground, but the foreground often looks unfinished, although some masters would disagree with me.
This is great.

Thank you very much for the kind comments, David. Appreciated.David wrote:Dramatic! I like it.

Pleased you liked this one, Mac. It's just that kind of streaky cloud, rather than the fluffy cumulonimbus. Thanks for the thumbs up and for letting me know.Macavity wrote:The super realism is most effective, dynamic...the bird is definitely in flight. Perhaps the pink cloud is a little too easy and flat? (I'm more aware of the paint there)
Good one to be sure.

dear JJ
for me there is a surrealism
through the color scheme
that leaves the eye juxtaposed
to consider that the sea might be
snow capped mountains
and intertwined i see the outstretched wings
speaking like Icarus
very fine canvas

Thank you very much, Silent Lotus, for the thoughtful and very pleasing response to this painting.
I really like the way you've looked at the possibilities and attached your own interpretation. That's one
of the beauties of art, where each viewer can bring their feelings and impressions to the table, knowing
their interp' is perfectly valid. Much appreciated.

What are you going to do with it?
Are you involved in local art groups?
If not then get involved.
Start taking part in local exhibitions.
Get your stuff out there.
You have built up a great collection of fabulous paintings.
I'm not stroking your ego JJ, I mean it.
Do something with your artwork.
Remember me when you are famous

Thanks again, Pauline, and sorry for the tardy response
Here's the final revised version to show the general scale of things. As you can see it's still drying on our kitchen table. Di keeps saying
"What the **** are you going to do with THAT"!
I'm still resisting the obvious reply.
You deserved it JJ. This, for me, is a stunning piece.
What are you going to do with it? ...Not sure, if I'm honest. I was thinking about hanging it on my bedroom wall. I've one going spare.
Are you involved in local art groups? ...No, not yet. Rochdale is my closest art group but they have a waiting list.
If not then get involved.
Start taking part in local exhibitions. ...I'll look into it because I keep dragging my feet. I feel as though I'm peeking over the sofa to see if they'll let me in.
Get your stuff out there.

Thanks again for the very encouraging comments. Really appreciated.

Hi JJ,
ditto everything that Pauline said.
Looks much better in this pic (and
the subtle arc of the ocean pairs
well with 'Infinity Pool' - made me
look closely for some signs of
wreckage).
Regards, Not.

I think I've got something of a maritime hat on at the moment, and the thoughts of painting the "infinity Pool" is just too delicious an opportunity to miss. Doesn't even have to be big. I could also write a poem to go with this "Miss", although Samuel T C has made a reasonable attempt in that department already.
Both very tempting.

PS when did we go blue?

Have to agree with you JJ, on both counts.
So, that's one new painting and one new poem then.
Good man! Chop, chop!
"PS when did we go blue?"
Assuming you're not referring to MirrorBall's "Euphoria Bleeds"
then see: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=23440

Told ya it was a fabulous size canvas. Small enough to house but large enough to make an impact.
JJ. I love your other paintings. I can see them in the background. Proudly displayed, and rightly so but...
C'mon, look at this magnificent piece...
There's no going back now JJ.
I truly LOVE this painting.
The colours, the atmosphere,the energy...

I'll have to find an outlet, though, if I'm to continue with them. If Di sees me with another one, so soon after completing Near Miss, I dread to think of the consequences.
