Oil on canvas 50 x 40 cms. The Honister Pass is in the Lake District, connecting Borrowdale, the Buttermere Fells and Buttermere Village. It's a striking, almost majestic valley, that really captures the imagination. You will often see a lone raven soaring on the wind high above the valley, frequently rising right in front of you as you walk the tops. It's a superb sight and quite uplifting. * :) *

 Not at all JJ. I was coming back from a walk this morning. The Brecons were typically brooding and moody and I felt I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. You've captured that marriage of light and dark and the scale. It is uplifting. Well done.

cheers

It's really good, JJ. I'm just not sure I can see the raven. Or are we to approach this like one of those old "Spot the Ball" contests in the Sunday papers?

Where are you standing for this?

Cheers

It's a terrific painting, I can see the raven. I'm sure if we were looking at the actual painting it would be very easy to see.

Who knows why people look but don't comment. I don't think you can read anything into that one way or the other.

I think you have totally mastered what you are doing. The way you capture not only the landscape but the atmosphere and the movement of the clouds is faultless. I am tempted to give you a valuation... :D

cheers

Thank you very much, Gents, for the more than encouraging replies. :)

I've only ever driven past the Brecon Beacons, mac, but I did give them a good looking over. They surprised me more than I expected
and they look like great walking country.

Yes, the raven is small and set against one of the light clouds in the far distance, David. It's how they and the buzzards are often seen.
Sometimes, one will pass overhead getting very close indeed, which is a real treat. The viewer is standing off the road in a dip. Correction! Above a dip.

Yes, the raven is easier to see on the full size canvas, but it is to scale, Ross. I appreciate the comments very much and smiled at the "valuation". :)

Best to all

dear JJ

there is an interesting feel
in the movement on left side of the canvas on the hills
in comparison to what seems to be a terraced component to the hills on the right

which for me speaks well to the bends in the various waterways

a warm smile

Thank you very much, Silent Lotus, for the super observations.

Created by fire, carved by ice and shaped by water; a wonderful combination.

Best

Now you have 3750 views and only a handful of comments.
WTF
What is going on?
Now, unless you are constantly going in and looking at your own work JJ ( and I'm pretty sure you are not )
and maybe I can account for a dozen or so visits cos I thinks it's fabulous,
I wonder just WHO is checking you out and not bothering commenting.
Make sure you sign your paintings JJ, just incase someone is downloading your image and using it as their own.
Hey, I may be totally wrong but it just seems unusual.
Just saying :?

i wonder how many cyber robots visit this forum , like Google , to keep internet listings up to date
or if the title comes up in searches for people looking for Honister Pass
that might be an answer to the number of views

Thanks, Pauline, for the sound thoughts.

I wondered how it had accumulated so many views and put it down to bots. There's often a good number floating about.
I sign everything in full on the back of the canvas, since a friend from another site advised me to make them more secure. He reckoned JJW wasn't enough. So I sign and date everything, with the title to boot (on the back). There'll be nee doot aboot it if they aall knaa wots gannin on. :)
