NaPoWriMo Prompt for April 26th: Archaeology Poem. Have you ever heard someone wonder what future archaeologists, whether human or from alien civilization, will make of us? Today, I’d like to challenge you to answer that question in poetic form, exploring a particular object or place from the point of view of some far-off, future scientist? The object or site of study could be anything from a “World’s Best Grandpa” coffee mug to a Pizza Hut, from a Pokemon poster to a cellphone. Link: http://www.napowrimo.net/

Alternative Prompts:

1. Just Say No: Write about the power you felt when you told someone no.

2. Memory Lane: What’s it look like? How do you get there?

3. Holding Hands: the first time you held someone's hand.

Luce

P.S. Sorry I'm a little late putting up the NaPoWriMo prompt today. For those who need a little more lead time, you can always click on the link (after 5 am UK time) from any past day to find it out.

Prompt: Archeology Poem

Date: 12/04/3594

I’m proud to announce our latest
artifact that, once and for all, will dispel
the notion that these distant ancestors
were cannibals, preying on their young.

Note the once clear film that wrapped
this crusty mass, the short sausage shape
of the item within, its faded golden color.

Upon dissection, under prescribed pristine
conditions, a dry white substance, the actual
high nutritional mass, is exposed.

Piles of this food stuff were found
in dwelling marked A2, among many
others. This movable hut had four
wheels, a silver metal skin. It had
the word “airstream” hammered in
above the front window.

There is strong evidence that this
was a stable, found in every home.
and so, there would be no need
to eat their young, in famine.
Eating this food seemed to be
enough.

It was obviously very important,
perhaps used in ritual,
for they even named it…

“Twinkies”.

No Dad

Dad?

Yes?

Why do you always say no?
I’ve just said yes, so I guess
it just goes to show you’re
not listening most of the time.

No, I do listen and you say no
if I ask for a lift, or ten quid,
or more time to finish my work,
or ten more minutes in bed.

“No, no, no, no, no”. That should
be your epitaph. Don’t be daft,
I never say no without good reason,
and yesterday I said yes five times.

Only because Newcastle scored three
and Sunderland let in two. You can’t
count that. Yes, yes, yes I can, because
I’m the man with the positive attitude.

Oh no you’re not, what a load of rot
you talk, dad. Things must be bad
if you think you’re positive.
Positively negative perhaps. Oh no!

Well, let me tell you that you’ve
just said no 10 times to my 1
and I’ve said yes 6 times to your 0.
Now, next question, please.

I had to google Twinkies. A kind of cake, methinks.
Enjoyed this romp but wouldn't want to live on planet X,
where the people don't know what a sponge cake is. Oh NO!

Dreadful thing to contemplate.

TWINKIES FOREVA!! - Some Domesday Preppers were so addicted to Twinkies that they included it in their survival foodstuffs. Some truly believed it never went bad. Considering all the chemical in it, I can see why they would think so.

NO DAD POEM - Every kid must of had this conversation with their dad, mom, whoever was raising them. My parents worked like a wrestling tag team. If one said no the other automatically said no and they said no very often with no explanations given.
It was just plain "no". They tolerated no dissention in the ranks. I must say they taught me how to present a convincing argument
for them to say "yes" to something. If one of my siblings wanted to go somewhere, they would bribe me to present their request to mom and dad. Yep, got lots of candy that way. :D

Crayon - Brilliant. I don't have a clue as to what you're saying fully but that is the genius of it all. I get glimpses as to what is going on - artfully put there by you (man, human, skeltons, habitat, atomic).

I'd like to think that these are future archeologist talking in the English language that has evolved over time, as languages do. Great touch.

Reads like HG Wells' The Time Machine. The Morlocks have gone underground.
