Just happen to be up late tonight and saw the prompt posted for April 14th on NaPoWriMo (US time)

Therefore, the official prompt for today is:

Write a clerihew which is basically a four line biographical poem of a famous person with an AABB rhyme scheme. You mention the person of the clerihew in the first line. It's usually satirical in nature but not always. See details and examples: http://www.napowrimo.net/.

Don't like the official prompt? You can choose one of the three alternate prompts listed below:

1. Friendship Poem: Write about being friends with someone.

2. Dictionary Definition Poem: Open up a dictionary to a random word. Define what that word means to you.

3. Cleaning Poem: Hey, even writers and creative artists have to do housework sometimes. Write about doing laundry, dishes, and other cleaning activities.

Prompt: clerihew

Here lies Edgar Allen Poe.
“Forever more”, snide the crow.
“He loved ravens the best
served them in cherry sauce to guests.”

preaching proved hazardous
when his connection to carpentry
nailed him with irony.

Errr...did you know that burning people at the stake is making a come back? Just saying...

No chocolate bunny for you.

Very, very clever and so appropriate or inappropriate (depending on how you look at it) being it's Easter Sunday come tomorrow.

AHHH COME ON!! Ain't nothin' sacred anyone? Dr. McCoy with a decidedly British accent. And on top of that I had to look up saveloy. Good grief!!! :o

Luce

P.S. You noticed that I wasn't upset that you made him a girl but making him British.... Oh no, that definitely crossed the bar.

Thank you, Luce. Yes, considering the time of year, Jesus seemed the (super)natural choice. And I didn't exactly dis the guy. You can burn me if you like, but don't you dare deny me chocolate bunnies!

Crayon - Cool clerihews. I like the one about Hitler the most. He definitely tried to whitewash his family history by killing off relatives left and right. I like how you linked him cleaning his boots to cleaning the history of his family. Nice turn.

The ambitious Adolf Hitler
was the most terrible stickler
for polishing his boots
and whitewashing his roots.

Gotta say though that the one for Cobain and Muhammad were a little off. I really can't see "spirit/shit" nor" Muhammad/said" as strong rhymes. However, I can see them as off rhymes but it seems that the clerihews work best with perfect rhymes for full effect.

Kurt Cobain
sang with visceral pain.
He'd long lost his teen spirit
when he quit all this shit.

The Prophet Muhammad
said he said what Allah said.
Best not say any more
cos it may start a war.

Luce, thank you. It seems that clerihews can be addictive.

Yes, the Hitler one is probably the most effective; although I maybe most like the Curtis and Salinger ones.

You're dead right about the Cobain one. I was lazy with it. I've posted a whole new version.

But I think the Muhammad rhyme is fine. Most people voice "Muhammad" and "said" with an 'ed' end sound. I've posted a tweaked version that uses the other common spelling of: Mohammed.

My error on the Muhammad one Crayon. You're absolutely right. Sorry about that one.
