The pylons are on the move,
dragging five sub-stations
east.

The churches, hunched,
stagger back to Liverpool,
one empty coffer each.

School children flutter,
the utterance of leaves
blown to the bank.

And the lank trees lean in,
to where the Cumbermere
Pit-head sank.
