I've been posting on poetry forums over 20 years.I credit them not for teaching me how to be a poet, but for how to compose a good poem.

Most of the emphasis in those forums was on publishing. I was terrified to send my first poem.It was accepted quickly.

I'm here to learn like everyone else, presumably. The forums I post with now are good ones.

I believe this forum is closer to what my "roots"are. My hope is to offer honest crit on exchange for same.

Good to meet you all ✌

Welcome to PG Ravallion. Look forward to reading your work. You'll find a range of approaches here, but that is healthy!

This is an interesting distinction.

I've been posting here - my first playground - since 2006, I see, but I dabble elsewhere too. I wonder whether we have crossed pens at all.

Welcome aboard anyway.

Cheers

Thanks for the cordiality David. Most of the forums of the old days are gone . Alsop Review, Melic, Blueline are where I first began...

Hello Ravallion,

I'm curious to know which forums you may have frequented from 2004 to 2007. Those were my most active years on BBC GetWriting and its various spin offs. I wouldn't dare cross pens with David though, he's a moderator so I'd end up as a banned poet pelt. I'm sure that's not true but I like the image.

Welcome and I look forward to seeing your poems and critiques. Go easy on me :)

People really shouldn't be frightened of moderators. The clue to their character is in the name - except, of course, in the fascist precincts of the Poetry-Free-For- All.

I was inactive during those years until late last year
