Re: Hold the castles

Thanks very much for your comment, MacPhil Rainbow; I appreciate your taking the time 🙂👍 Thanks for 'a natural with r&r'; funnily enough, John Isbell has said so too! Great minds, MacPhil. Dad's a composer and lyricist, and we think I inherited something from him. I am indeed writing a novel in ...

Hold the castles

He dreams of castles on a Cornish beach they visited, when he was eight years old. For picnic pudding, Mum gives him a peach and speaks of Roald Dahl. It’s all so gold, the sun, the sand, his mother’s voice, the spade and bucket she has bought him for the trip. Her long fair hair is fastened in a br...

Re: Hi Dad (rev 3 tweaked)

Hi Eira, Back again! :) I've had long absences too. I did Greek & Roman Studies at uni; I was going to do Eng. Lit. with it, but I didn't get the grades. due to illness. They took me on as a single honours student instead and I was happy about that as it meant I got to travel to Italy and Greece...

Re: Hi Dad (rev 3 tweaked)

Hi Eira, Apologies; I can't remember whether we've 'e-met' before. I'm Fliss and I went to uni in Birmingham :) I really like your poem. Do you have any particular publication in mind for it? Sorry this is just me looking in for now, rather than offering critique. I'm working long hours at the momen...

New-ish poetry project

Hi, I'm putting together a series of poems at the moment. Based on a relationship I was in during my early twenties, it has potential to become a book thing, maybe 🤔 I was just wondering whether anyone knows of any poetry books focusing on a single relationship, how many poems would be the maximum n...

Wow, MacPhil! What a super-cool track! I really enjoyed that. Congrats to your nephew :)

I'm still looking forward to the sandcastles too! Work went weird today, but tomorrow might be better (have to hope) 🤔

Re: New Exercise/Response Poem3

Ta muchly, MacPhil! I'm pleased all the positivity comes through. Bit of a rough ride, but I got there in the end. I was in touch with Caleb throughout the convalescence and he got me back into writing poetry again :) MacPhil, do you ever write to music? Sometimes I wonder whether being part of a wr...

Re: New Exercise/Response Poem3

Ah... it's good to exercise  This poem is inspired by Lange, 'Nearly Home', hence its title. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0bxr81u5hE Nearly home March 2021 The world is different now. It isn’t grey although the day is cloudy. I get up and wash and dress. It’s easier. Hooray! My hands, less ...

Re: The Ekphrastic Review

Yay! Thanks, MacPhil. I wrote this one quite a long time ago. I have a big Word doc strewn with all the old stuff; I think of it as my salvage yard. I'm glad you liked the refrain and 'warrior roar', a bit of a highlight for me too! Thanks for your kind words :) Ah, drinking again! Well, why not 🍷 B...

Re: What qualifications...

Yay!

Perhaps that could be the first issue. I tend to think of a pocket poem as 16 lines or fewer, but it could be smaller still.

Thanks for your responses, MacPhil; much appreciated! Off to make tea now ☕️ and maybe have a biscuit too 🍪 :D

Re: What qualifications...

Hooray! Thanks, MacPhil :D Themes are fun too. I think I submitted to Snakeskin for the first time when it was a short poems issue. The overall theme of this magazine will be music, but there's scope within that for particular prompts, pocket poems, etc. We'll be open to all styles :) 🎹 <-- mini-key...

Re: What qualifications...

That helps plenty, MacPhil! Quite a streamlined approach from Autumn Sky there, which is good. I think I'd still be inclined to set up an auto-response, just to acknowledge receipt. It would be very courteous :D At the moment, we have in mind a quarterly publication, but we were discussing monthly a...

... do you need to be an editor of a poetry journal? I'm asking for a friend. He's had a lot of poems published in online journals; he's had one poetry book published; his second poetry book is forthcoming. He's very pleasant, if that helps, and he'd be supported by me, in an admin role. Cue good us...

Re: Fliss at The Dirigible Balloon

Thanks, MacPhil! :D I'm happy you find the poem 'delightfully warming'. Little Queenie would like to shake your hand, after which she'll engage you in the competition, naturally  I think I found out about The Dirigible Balloon on the 'sphere, but I didn't workshop the poem. I wrote it last Satu...
