Re: Sometimes with haiku...

Thanks for responding Tristan. Yes, Twitter is awash with haiku at the moment and many are lacklustre to say the least. This is another playful piece and does, hopefully, leave the reader a little deflated to make a point. I love haiku so like to see good ones. And also correct syllables. Cheers Cam

Re: If you can't quite get...

Thank you Ray and Nash. Will ponder the title. The dash just seemed an appropriate break/pause in proceedings.

Re: The Acoustic Blankets

Hi Ray,

I enjoyed this. The last line of the poem is crucial. It is, after all, the punch line. I wondered whether you could employ a rhyme to create a memorable final couplet? Just a thought.

Re: If you can't quite get...

Thanks very much Tristan. Very good crit. I wasn't aware of the rhymes. The whole thing was just a bit of fun. The seven/teen line break seemed playful and fell just at the haiku/tanka boundary which made me laugh. Yes, a better title? How about 'More is More'? PS will do a crit on someone else's po...

If you can't quite get
Everything you're trying to
Say into seven-
Teen syllables - then what you
Need is a tanka instead.

Re: THE CLOSING & REOPENING OF THIS FORUM

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I am conscious that I have neglected this place terribly over the years. Other projects and problems ensued, as they say. But, PG reminds me of those wonderful lines from Auden: 'For poetry makes nothing happen: it survives In the valley of its making where execut...

Re: Making Contact - Poets' Graves anthology!

I've posted a picture of the anthology on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cameron_self/8293937594/in/photostream (Hope Kris doesn't mind but I also added his lovely seagull poem to an appropriate seagull picture?) Dedicating the book to Barrie was a very nice touch and placing his (funny and mo...

Thanks

Just like to say a big 'thank you' for all the hard work that has gone into this anthology; it looks splendid. Very much looking forward to the arrival of my contributor's copy.

Re: Frank Kermode on E. M. Forster and the creative person

It's the doing of it, I think, that is important. The completion, even if successful (whatever that means) is somehow a disappointment. The interest (for me) is in the chase: the searching for something, the waiting for something, the arrival of something, the shaping of something, the honing of som...

Classic photograph kj. I won't spoil it for others. Pity Larkin wasn't at the same F&F party. Ted looks like he's sucking a lemon, doesn't he?

Re: Hon (This) T.H. Parry Williams

Hi Amadeus,

I've just been looking at the PG web stats and I thought you might like to know that this poem is getting hundreds and hundreds of hits. I just tried putting 'Hon T H' etc into Google and it comes up first.

Obviously a significant poem.

Thanks for posting.

Last night's George Mackay Brown was very good, I thought. Must have a look at Hamnavoe sometime.

Re: British poetry mags

Thanks wab; I'm afraid I haven't looked inside The Rialto for years.

However, Mr Mackmin has just agreed to do a 'Lit Norfolk' interview for me - so if anyone has any questions they'd like asked please let me know.

Cheers

Yea, he makes them look so easy doesn't he? But as anyone who entered the PG sonnet competition a few years back will know - they can be right little buggers. He also provided me with helpful geographical info about the sonnets: 'You may be interested to know that the warehouse in the first section ...

Re: British poetry mags

I had 2 poems published in 'The Rialto' back in the 1980s. The mag is run by a chap called Mike Mackmin who lives at Aylsham in Norfolk. By day he works as a Gestalt therapist and I bumped into him years ago while doing voluntary work for a drug and alcohol charity. I found, however, that he didn't ...

Tennyson Bicentenary Event

Dear Sir/Madam I have the pleasure in announcing this year events for Farringford, Tennyson’s home on the Isle of Wight. They are hosting a number of events to celebrate his bicentenary this year, including the chance to walk in Tennyson’s foot steps with Andrew Motion, indulge in Victorian music an...
