The Forward Book of Poetry

Which, if any would you recommend? Does anyone make a point of buying them on a regular basis or not rate them in general? I bought my first and only one in 2000 and there are some poems I really treasure:- John Burnside - The Asylum Dance Caroline Carver - Horse Under Water R S Thomas - Blackbird A...

Ted Hughes news - letters auction 24th June 2015

It's news - make it a discussion if you wish but where is the best place for posting news on PG? http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jun/16/unseen-papers-ted-hughes-funny-loyal-affectionate-side I think I have a warmer-hearted view of Ted than the received image, the one picture painted in the med...

Re: How do these comments make you reflect on your own effor

To be clear, in the first instance, I was quoting the editors from their introduction. In the second instance they were quoting Rilke. So strictly:- a mere recounting of anecdotes or minor stagings of epiphany. and So rescue yourself from these general themes and write about what your everyday life ...

The fear I mention was meant to explain the reluctance of ppl to take part in these intense short duration projects - having to share raw almost uncooked poetry - not to the general impotence.

By coincidence there is some mention of MA's in Creative Writing in the introduction to “Voice Recognition” an anthology edited by James Byrne and Clare Pollard (2009) published by good old Bloodaxe - it's a book mentioned in my thread "How do these comments make you reflect on your own efforts...

Re: More on the symmetry debate

I looked at this and the indenting, to my way of reading and hearing the poem, suggested a way of phrasing the lines for reading aloud. It seems to me that the lines indented by a tab space are linked more closely (require less of a pause or a "comma" pause ) that between an indented line ...

Re: 30 poems in 30 days NaPoWri 2014

In defence of such a seemingly insane undertaking I can say that the results are sometimes surprisingly positive. I have done a very similar song writing challenge with variable results but always, imho, positive. I may never have managed to write the target of 14 songs in 28 days but I have managed...

How do these comments make you reflect on your own efforts?

I'm considering a few comments made in the introduction to “Voice Recognition” an anthology edited by James Byrne and Clare Pollard (2009) published by good old Bloodaxe. “But if there is (a) main criticism of the MA(Master of Art degree) (and some non-academic poetry workshops can be included in th...

I will swap the 1G for a 2G and had thought about a dual boot Win7 and a Linux distro - I've had a Red Hat install once ( al long time ago) - depends on support for the cloud storage - I really haven't looked into that at all. I was also looking at some smaller(12"), cheap lightweight, higher s...

I spent some time on my daughters iPad Air (8.9" diagonal) & while she says she's quickly got used to the virtual keyboard I wasn't won over - I've decided I will use a real keyboard - they hook up to the tablet using Bluetooth. Some such keyboards also serve as a case & stand to go wit...

Laptops, tablets & paper: anchored or mobile, OS's and apps?

I use a traditional good quality paper notebook to write and jot things down if I'm away from the house - in fact I work well and prefer to work away from my desktop - sitting in the same place in the room can be numbing. I prefer to edit by marking up changes on paper print outs with a few coloured...

Conical flask, Bunsen; stew for a while, wait for crystals to form, sluice through filter paper. Voila. i.e. as Elphin suggested. S4 & 5 feel like they were sandwiched in from another pre-existing source - perhaps you should either leave them out altogether and concentrate on the cappuccino and ...
