Re: Who's reading what?

This is a fab thread. Thanks K-j, I had only read Norwegian Wood so will be re-visiting Murakami. Also Kate Atkinson. For short stories it has to be AL Kennedy, I've just started her latest collection "all the rage" - as always not much happens (in the action sense) but is deliciously writ...

Re: Swimming in no underwear at Uisken, Isle of Mull, Januar

am loving this. I sea swim all year round so am a sucker for this material, but think your execution is perfect - succinct and tight. I also like the no underwear - prefer this to naked. My only quibble would be the jellyfish comment - explaining what isn't there doesn't help me see what is there. T...

Re: The Rambler (revision)

Hey Mac, There's lots to like here, but the rhythm and rhyme do let it down. It draws you in, gets you going at a pace, then sends you tumbling over yourself. i think if you're going to use this type of structure you need to be much tighter - so i would suggest either going for the fully structured ...

Hey C, Liked S1. Although not too sure about sequestered - secluded? Cloistered? Mmmmm, some thought needed there. Am loving the dialogue it's induced. David that link is fabulous, very entertaining. Please please have another go at the middle section - i'm eagerly awaiting that. Thanks for the thou...

Re: The Brook

Hi Mike, a few thoughts on this. Like the others have said the line breaks need some attention. i also felt the content was a bit confused. You were clearly looking at the brook thinking of time passing by (S1) but then you start to discuss gravity. The "urgent call" seems to switch from t...

And you can make a rather bizarre cordial with the flowers - think fusty sweet coconuts. Not terribly conducive to kissing. Will be happier once the elderflower arrives, but for now it'll do.

Re: The decomposition of love

Thanks so much all, This is the first thing I've written in months so it's a huge boost to get such a positive response. The idea behind this is that love starts with a kiss, and that brings a gradual decomposition of body and mind. Either a gradual rot that seeps through you (like a bruised apples)...

The decomposition of love

From honeyed skin
stem bruised apple kisses,
lips firm with promise
indent my spine.

The flesh beneath
lies darkly sweetened,
inexorably spreading,
tenderised.

Re: Secret Society

Hi Seth, I'm a little rusty, have been struggling to read and write but this really drew me in. There's something very compulsive about the flow, and intriguing about the subject matter. It's interesting reading the others interpretation. Mine was originally that this was an admissions team for the ...

Hurrah for inept social weebling on both our parts! Let the kiss chain continue....... Shadwell - I have a ridiculous and shameful crush on that track, I was compulsively listening to it for months and nearly ended up divorced!! David - those lyrics are absolutely appalling, but I'm wondering if the...

Re: Louis Jordan - The gorse is in flower....

Oooops, sorry David, these are absolutely your lines - I thought you'd like this track so I married it with your lines. I loved this couplet of yours. This was my clunky, and possibly misguided, way of saying hello. I'll just to stick "hello" in future. Is this a faux pas on my part? Would...

Really do you think? Playing the long game? It can't be. It was never consummated so I'm sure if this was the case he would have tried again.

I can't comment on the quality of the poetry I'm afraid, I'm too preoccupied sharply in taking my breath.

Re: Books to Film

Ah, maybe I should be less cynical. It's just that I love the book and generally loathe Hollywood. It never seems to manage "dark" very well. I can't see him including any 20s jazz in there - it's all going to be shitty disco music isn't it? We might have to take this outside to the music ...

Oooo, and having found this thread, my recommendation would be The Princess Bride - book by William Goldman, film by someone else (I have no idea who). Both two of my favourites.
